My Work Experience
Hi! I’m Nastia and I’d like to share with you my impressions of doing work experience. My practice at Tally Weijl as a fashion consultant was a very interesting and useful experience for me.
Tally Weijl is a fashion label based in Basel, Switzerland. The company is represented worldwide in 37 countries with over 780 stores and employs over 3,400 people (as of February 2015). Tally Weijl was founded in 1984 by Tally Elfassi-Weijl and Beat Grüring. In 2017, Tally Weijl acquired the 69 stores of the French fashion company Mim.
The company’s headquarters, the so-called “campus”, is located in Basel. The collections were mostly created in Paris until 2016, since then the Design Center has also been in Basel, together with the Service & Support Center. Only one trend team remained in the French fashion metropolis.
At Tally Weijl, you can find a variety of trendy and affordable fashion items, mainly targeted at young women. Tally Weijl is known for its fast fashion approach, offering styles that match current trends.
From the first days, I felt like part of the team, where there was a friendly and professional atmosphere. My main tasks were to help customers choose clothes, sort clothes by size, create stylish looks, give advice about fashion trends, and talk about new promotions.
I really enjoyed working with customers helping them find the right clothes, considering their tastes and features. It was a creative process that gave me a lot of joy, especially when I saw happy smiles on the customers’ faces. I learned how to understand customers’ needs and offer solutions to make their shopping easy and successful.
In addition, I helped to arrange the shop windows and the hall. It gave me the chance to use my ideas to create attractive displays of the collections. During this work, I learned a lot about merchandising and how retail works. I also learned how to work with the cash register and improved my knowledge of inventory systems.
The shop team was very friendly and supportive. My colleagues shared their experience with me and helped me to adapt. The managers gave me feedback, which helped me to improve my skills and feel more confident.
This practice made my interest in fashion even stronger and gave me a desire to grow in this area. I understood how important it is to find a personal approach to every customer and create positive shopping emotions. In the future, I would love to return to Tally Weijl as a full-time employee to continue developing as a fashion consultant.
This experience was a great start to my career. It showed me how important it is to combine creativity, communication, and professionalism at work. I am sure the skills I learned will be useful not only in fashion but in any other professional field as well.
What is work experience and why is it useful?
Work experience for schoolchildren is a short-term placement or activity that allows young students to get a taste of what it’s like to work in a real-world environment. It is often organized by schools, usually for students aged 14-18, to help them:
- Learn about jobs
Students understand different careers and what people do in their roles.- Gain skills
Teenagers develop useful basic workplace skills such as communication, teamwork, and time management.- Build self-confidence
Teenagers experience what it’s like to work and feel more prepared for future opportunities.- Make connections
Students meet professionals who can offer advice and guidance.- Decide on interests
Students explore different fields to figure out what they enjoy or don’t enjoy. They think about possible careers.Examples of work experience include spending a week in an office, helping at a local business, volunteering in a charity shop, or shadowing a professional in their daily tasks. It’s a great way for young people to prepare for their future!
