My Adventures in the Carpathians

Hi there! I’m Artiom and I’d like to share with you my adventures in the Carpathians.

On 1 July, my family and I went on holiday to Bukovel which is situated in the heart of the Carpathians.  Do you know that Bukovel is the largest ski resort in Eastern Europe? And it was named the fastest-growing ski resort in the world. Where is it? Bukovel is in the western part of Ukraine. It is located in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast near the village of Polianytsia at elevation of 900 m (3,000 ft) above the sea level. And one more interesting fact about Bukovel. It is one of the most popular ski resorts in the Ukrainian Carpathian Mountains.

We stayed in a lovely hotel Chale DuMont. I think it’s super for several reasons. It’s modern, it has got a swimming pool, the staff is friendly, the food is delicious and the views are spectacular and breathtaking!

Every day was exciting and full of entertainment. My adventures in the Carpathians started with a ride on one of the biggest swings in Ukraine. This swing is in Gutsul land. It was scary a little bit but the view of the mountains was amazing! It was a bit disappointing that there was a long queue and I had to wait for a long time. Have you ever taken a ride on a high swing? You should definitely try!

We had great fun on the Lake of Youth. It is rather deep, up to 8 meters in some places and the water is so clear. There is a good beach there and you can swim and ride on water skis, jet and others. Near the lake there was a big wheel to enjoy fantastic views. My dad and I had a thrilling adventure riding a bike zip. It is 30 meters high over the surface of Lake of Youth. Mom took pictures of us.

My next adventure was a visit to a giant’s house where everything was so big: enormous furniture, a huge washing machine and a toilet and huge giant’s clothes. I enjoyed relaxing on a huge giant’s sofa!

The next day, we set out to climb Hoverla, the highest mountain in Ukraine. At the foot of the mountain, we rented some walking poles to help with the hike. We began our journey through the forest, and after about two hours, we reached an open space. Continuing on for another two hours, we arrived at Hoverlyana, where we took a break to eat.

After resting at Hoverlyana, we resumed our climb and finally reached the summit of Hoverla. At the top, we celebrated by buying a gold medal, along with some tea and water. We took plenty of pictures to capture the moment.

Here are some brief facts about Mount Hoverla:

  • Hoverla is the highest mountain in Ukraine (2,061 meters above sea level).
  • Hoverla is a popular destination for hikers, both beginners and experienced hikers.
  • Hoverla is considered a national symbol of Ukraine, often associated with the country’s natural beauty and strength.
  • From the top, hikers can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the mountains, valleys and forests.
  • The name “Hoverla” is believed to derive from the Hungarian word “hóvár,” which means “snow fortress”.
  • Many Ukrainians climb Ukraine’s Independence Day (August 24). They carrying Ukrainian flags to the summit.
  • Hoverla has appeared in various Ukrainian folklore and songs.
  • The weather on top of Hoverla is very changeable.

Once back at the foot of Hoverla, we bought some souvenirs for our friends. Then, we returned to the hotel.

I enjoyed my adventures in the Carpathians very much. I gained interesting experiences and unforgettable impressions.
