I’m Dasha and here is my for and against essay about the advantages and disadvantages of the Internet in education.

The Internet is one of the most powerful educational tools. You can learn about new civilizations, travel to the past or the future, see fantastic pictures of nature, cities of the world and works of art. As with any education technique, classroom Internet usage has both advantages and disadvantages.

Firstly, the main advantage is the access to information. The Internet is a big library, where you can find information on any topic. It helps students to make projects, do homework, find the answers to many of their questions, etc. Many teachers make their own channels on YouTube and create websites where they teach in a quick, smart and interesting way.

Secondly, the Internet opens up an opportunity to online education. Online classes is a good way to study for those students who travel with a job, who are on lockdown, or who simply prefer it more. Both teachers and students may have classes in a comfortable environment saving time and money by not having to commute. Moreover, students improve their time management and computer skills. Schoolchildren enjoy flexibility making their own timetable and working according to their learning style. They get used to being responsible for timeliness of doing tasks. Also, as students use different online platforms, they learn to master new software which will be useful in the future. Online education helps to develop such useful skills for the future as how to stay focused and motivated on your own.

Visiting faraway places is a great positive side of using the Internet in studying. It is possible to reach different popular and unusual places of the world just sitting at home. Students are able to visit museums, where they learn about the greatest masterpieces, and virtual zoos, where they learn about the wild nature, flora and fauna. Furthermore, children learn about the diversity of nations and cultures and how to be tolerant in a multicultural society.

One more positive aspect, which is worth being mentioned, is social skills development. Students can make projects with students from the other countries via email and chat rooms. It helps to meet new people from all over the world, to share interests and traditions. Thus, writing skills and virtual group communication skills can be developed.

Though there are some negative aspects of the Internet in education.

The most important drawback is the absence of physical activity because children spend too much time sitting in front of their computers and smartphones, instead of going for a walk, and doing exercises.

Another disadvantage is a big amount of information which sometimes can be inaccurate and even fake.

One more argument against of online education is the fact that students don’t get immediate explanation and experience lack of face-to-face communication with their friends and teachers. Without social interaction it is hard to learn social skills.

To conclude, I’d like to say that the future of education is impossible without the Internet. As far as I am concerned, the Internet helps me to study. I appreciate the opportunity to get an experience of learning online. To my mind, students of high school, colleges and universities should study online and it would be better for elementary school students to gain experience and knowledge off-line, at school.
