Write an Informal Letter Reading Books

You’ve got a letter from your English pen-friend in which he/she writes that he/she would like to spend his/her holidays reading interesting books and asks your opinion on that.

Write a letter to your pen-friend in which you tell him/her

  • what kind of boo you read last and who recommended you to read it
  • what literary genre you prefer and why
  • give some pieces of advice on how to spend holidays not to get bored

Here is Maxim’s work

Hello Bill,

How are you? I hope you are doing well. Thanks for your letter. I am very happy that our summer holidays have finally started. I feel so exhausted at the end of the school year.

It looks you’re very excited about reading books during your summer holidays. I believe the idea to spend holidays reading interesting books is great. Reading develops our thinking skills and imagination, enriches our vocabulary and improves speaking skills. Reading is entertaining and always fun.

Last week I’ve read “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” and found it very interesting. My friend Andrey recommended me to read it. I adore reading fantasy.

As for my favourite literary genres, I prefer science fiction and humorous stories. Sci-fi stories attract me because I am crazy about adventures to other worlds and galaxies and I am interested in advanced technologies. Witty books are funny and I relax reading them. I don’t like novels and detective stories because in my opinion they are boring, especially novels.

I think only reading books on holiday is boring. There are lots of other exciting things which can help you spend your holidays much better.

First of all, I can suggest going to the river beach with your friends and playing different sports games. What about taking up some water sports like waterskiing, canoeing or wakeboarding?

Secondly, you can play online computer games with me.

What is more, it is the best time for picnics and barbecues. Don’t lose the moment because it will be too hot in July.

I hope my advice will help youSay hello to your parents. Hope to hear from you soon.

Yours,

Harry
