Writing
Your school and an English school are going to have a student exchange scheme.
The English school would like you to write a school report for yourself so that they can find out all about you.
Your report should include the following points:
- Give personal details (name, age, form / class, etc.).
- Descibe your school and the students you study.
- Talk about your strengths and weaknesses.
- Explain the things you like and dislike about school.
I am very happy that I have a chance to take part in a students exchange scheme. My name is Maxim and I am a fifteen-year-old teenager. I’m a summer child because my birthday is in June. So I was born under the sign of Gemini and they say that people born under this zodiac sign are witty but tend to be a little impatient.
I am from Ukraine. I live in Kaniv, a beautiful small town on the Dnipro River. I’ve got father, mother and an elder brother. As for my appearance, I’m a tall, slim boy with dark hair and brown eyes. I’m a sociable person and I’ve got a lot of friends. My best friend is Sasha who can share my secrets and whom I trust. I am crazy about playing online computer games. I enjoy riding a bike in summer. I am fond of listening to music and I do it every day.
My school is number 2 in the town of Kaniv. It is a lyceum after Ivan Franko. Our school is in Soborna Square which is in the centre of our town but far from my house. It usually takes me up to 20 minutes to get to school on the bus. There are 300 students in our school and they have classes in several buildings. These buildings aren’t modern ones. There are from 20 up to 30 students in every class. Our first lesson starts at 8 a.m. and school is over at 3 p.m. Our school is a day school. There are a lot of subjects that we must study, such as Biology, Chemistry, Technology, English, Ukrainian, Ukrainian Literature, History, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, IT, PE, two foreign languages and some others. All of the subjects are compulsory. The core subjects are Ukrainian, Maths and History.
As for our school facilities, we’ve got a canteen, an assembly hall, a library, a computer room, a football pitch, a Science lab and a playground. There isn’t a gym in our school and we have to go to the College of Culture for our PE classes. The headmistress of our school is Olha Antonivna. She is strict but fair. I have been studying at my school for three years and I think it is the best school in my town because I’ve got lots of friends here!
I like my school because of friendly atmosphere at the lessons, fair and protective teachers, good relationship with classmates and interesting extracurricular activities.
I suggest providing students with a school bus and building a gym and a swimming pool. What is more, it would be great to have more high-tech equipment at school. One more suggestion of mine is the opportunity for senior students to choose subjects they want to study and need for their future job.
I am in Year 10 which means that I’m a student of senior high school. My favourite subjects are PE, History, IT and English. My least favourite subjects are Physics, Maths and Ukrainian literature. I am bad at Physics and Geography but I am into learning English. I am good at listening, speaking and reading but sometimes I have problems with grammar. Spelling is my weakest point but I try to improve it doing lots of exercises, writing dictations and essays. I remember the proverb which says that practice makes perfect. Without sufficient English knowledge I won’t become a successful specialist and won’t be able to communicate at a decent level. English is a tool to fulfillment of my aspirations so I don’t waste any opportunity to be closer to the world.
