Do you know …
The Eisteddfod is a Welsh festival of literature and music. The idea of the festival goes back at least to the 12th century. Lord Rhys first held a bardic tournament – a competitive festival of music and poetry in Cardigan.
Today’s National Eisteddfod maintains the tradition, but there are also all kinds of activities and entertainment for people of all ages and backgrounds.
The Eisteddfod is a microcosm of all Welsh things. The language of the Eisteddfod is Welsh. However, there is a warm welcome for everyone whatever your language. Information and translation facilities are available to ensure everyone enjoys the Eisteddfod.
The site of the National Eisteddfod alternates between north and south Wales. The National Eisteddfod takes place for 10 days from the first Saturday in August.
Every time I learn something new. I’ve never known anything about this festival. For example, I was surprised by the fact that the first National Eisteddfod was held in the castle of the city of Cardigan in 1176. The settlement at Cardigan was developed around the Norman castle built in the late 11th or early 12th century. There are all kinds of activities and entertainment for people of all ages and backgrounds at the festival. The National Eisteddfod takes place in August. I think that it is a great festival.
Karina, thanks for your presentation. Before that I only heard about this festival when I read a text about Wales. Thank you for information about this Welsh festival, I was very surprised that it is so old. The idea of the festival goes back at least to the 12th century! The Welsh are amazing people. I know that their literature is one of the oldest in Europe. It’s great that they have such an interesting festival of singing and literature. Wish to see the Druids!
