Head and Face

  • head
    the top part of the body, containing the brain, eyes, ears, nose, and mouth
  • skull
    the bone structure that protects the brain
  • forehead
    the area above the eyes and below the hairline

  • eyelids
    flaps of skin that cover and protect the eyes

Upper Body

  • neck
    the part that connects the head to the torso
  • shoulders
    the joints where the arms attach to the torso
  • chest
    the front part of the torso, containing the heart and lungs
  • breast
    a prominent feature of the human chest, present in both males and females, but more developed in females; in women, the primary function of the breast is to produce milk for feeding babies

    the rear part of the torso
  • spine / backbone
    the column of bones (vertebrae) that supports the body
  • ribs
    the bones that form the chest cage and protect the heart and lungs

Arms and Hands

  • limb
    humans have four limbs: two upper limbs (arms) and two lower limbs (legs)

    the upper limb from shoulder to hand
  • armpit/axilla
    the area under the shoulder where the arm connects to the body
  • elbow
    the joint in the middle of the arm
  • forearm
    the lower part of the arm, between the elbow and wrist

    refers to any of the fingers or toes

  • hip
    the joint where the thigh meets the torso
  • thigh
    the upper part of the leg, from the hip to the knee
  • lap
    the area of a person’s body between the waist and the knees when sitting; it is the part of the body where one can rest or place objects, such as a book or a child
  • knee
    the joint in the middle of the leg
  • calf
    the back part of the lower leg
  • shin
    the front part of the lower leg
  • ankle
    the joint between the leg and the foot

    the part used for standing and walking
