Is it a good idea to have a part-time job?

In many countries children are engaged in some kind of paid work. Some people regard this as completely wrong, while others consider it as valuable work experience, important for learning and taking responsibility.

In my opinion part-time jobs are the best solution for teenagers. All teens want to have modern gadgets so they need to have their own money. Having a part-time job helps teens become independent and responsible. I think that teenagers should have a part-time job to get real experience.

Some teens work only at weekends or during holidays. They work in food service as a kitchen assistant or a waiter. Others work as promoters in shopping centres. Some of them work as shop assistants consulting the customers. It is a low-paid job, but teenagers still like it.

I also think parents should support their children if they decide to work part-time. I absolutely agree that parents should control the children, know how much money they earn and help to avoid problems with school or college.

But there are some disadvantages of working part time. Firstly, it can influence the education if students miss the classes. Secondly, the teens can spend money on harmful things, such as alcohol and cigarettes. Thirdly, they may get out of parent’s control.

To sum up, I would say that working at a part-time job is a great way to help teenagers realize their dreams.
