Let’s Learn About Ireland and St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day for kids to learn customs and traditions of English-speaking people.

Ireland is a country with a lot of green grass and shamrocks. There is a lot of green in Ireland, so green is Ireland’s national colour. This country is often called the “Emerald Isle“.

The symbol of Ireland is a shamrock.   “Shamrock” means a little clover.  It is a small plant with three leaves.

The patron saint of Ireland is St. Patrick.  St. Patrick was a priest in Ireland many years ago.  He taught the Irish people about God.

Irish people celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on the 17th of March. People wear green clothes on St. Patrick’s Day.  They go to the parties, sing, dance and eat Irish food.  Some people even drink green beer on this day.

The symbols of this holiday are leprechauns, pots of gold and shamrocks.
